LGBTI Commitment

Présentation engagement en faveur des personnes LGBTI

The Vice-President for Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination has put in place measures to combat LGBTphobia related to sexual orientation and gender identity. In partnership with the Human Rights Defender and the main LGBTI associations, it is developing its strategy which is based on four areas: assistance, training, awareness-raising and research. The different actions are aimed at both staff and students of Aix Marseille University.

News of May 2020

  • Following the numerous reports reported by associations during periods of confinement, Frédéric Potier, inter-ministerial delegate of the DILCRAH and Marlène Schiappa, Secretary of State for Equality between Women and Men, announced an emergency accommodation plan to help young LGBT+ victims of violence or family breakdown. The plan is operational, and an agreement has been signed with the Le Refuge Foundation.
  • Launch of the mobile application FLAGavailable on Android and iOS, free and dedicated to anonymous reporting, for victims and witnesses of LGBTphobic physical or verbal violence on the internet, at home, on the public highway or at work. Flag is a French association under the law of 1901 whose objective is to fight against all forms of discrimination against gays, lesbians and transgender people within the Ministry of the Interior and Justice.
  • On the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, on May 17, the LGBT+ Observatory of the Jean-Jaurès Foundation and the Interministerial Delegation for the Fight against Racism, Anti-Semitism and Anti-LGBT Hatred (Dilcrah) propose to exchange on the fight against LGBTphobia in France and in Europe during a videoconference in the presence of

  • The Bill, carried by Laetitia Avia, aimed at combating hate content on the Internet, was adopted in final reading by the National Assembly on Wednesday 13 May 2020.Chapter 1 of the bill requires major online platform operators, whose activity consists of connecting several people for the purpose of sharing content or referencing such content, to remove, within 24 hours of notification, content that glorifies certain crimes, provokes discrimination, hatred or violence or denies crimes against humanity, aggravated insults, sexual harassment, child pornography content and provocation to terrorism or its glorification. The CAMU's LGBTI Commitment Harp

AMU has given concrete expression to its commitment to LGBTI people by adopting a Charter annexed to the establishment's internal regulations.

By this charter, adopted unanimously by the TC and the AMU Board of Directors on 23 January 2018, AMU commits to :

  • Creating an inclusive work and study environment for LGBTI people
  • Ensuring equal rights and treatment of all staff and students, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity
  • Supporting staff and students who are victims of discriminatory comments or acts.
  • Measuring progress and sharing good practices to change the overall environment
  • Fostering the development of research and knowledge on LGBTI themes

It is accompanied by mechanisms to facilitate its implementation:

The actions for awareness raising and training

While awareness-raising, information and training activities are organised throughout the academic year, two key events are given priority:

  • around 17 May (International Day Against Homophobia) for staff. As part of AMU's LGBTI commitment, staff are invited to attend awareness sessions and trainings (programme 2020 modified in the current health context - see news page).
  • around October 15th for students at dedicated campus events.

These days benefit from the support of national and regional associations (Amnesty international, Autre Cercle, Contact, Must, SOS Homophobie, Transat...), the support of the DILCRAH (Délégation Interministérielle à la Lutte Contre le Racisme, l'Antisémitisme et la Haine anti-LGBT) and the Défenseur des Droits. Experts and teacher-researchers are invited to participate in round tables, animate film-debates, present works...Exhibitions and forums are proposed on the different campuses.
