OSAMU - the AMU Symphony Orchestra

As part of its cultural policy, in January 2015 Aix-Marseille University created a symphony orchestra called the Orchestre Symphonique d'AMU (OSAMU), to contribute to its influence and to perform at major events organised by the university.
Under the direction of the young Marseille conductor Sébastien Boin, the OSAMU brings together students from all parts of the university and staff members recruited at the highest level to play the great symphonic repertoire and contribute to its enrichment through the programming of contemporary creations.
The Conservatoire National à Rayonnement Régional (CNRR) in Marseille provides logistical and human support by encouraging some of its best students to come and complete the orchestra. OSAMU currently has 80 members.

OSAMU has performed in places such as the Opéra de Marseille, the Théâtre de la Criée, the Théâtre Silvain, the Palais de la Bourse de Marseille, the Conservatoire d'Aix ...
In 2020, Aix Marseille University commissioned the composer Alexandros Markéas to create a symphonic work: "Le7e Continent, Symphonie tragique et utopique pour danseurs, chœur et grand orchestre" (The 7th Continent, a tragic and utopian symphony for dancers, choir and large orchestra). The world premiere bringing together 200 artists from Aix Marseille University's artistic ensembles; OSAMU, EV'AMU and DANSE'AMU on the stage of the Opéra Municipale de Marseille was initially scheduled for 29 November 2020. Due to the health crisis, the creation will be postponed until 2021.
