OSAMU - AMU Symphony Orchestra
As part of its cultural policy, Aix-Marseille University set up a symphony orchestra in January 2015 called the AMU Symphony Orchestra (OSAMU), which contributes to its excellence and performs at major events organised by the university or in the territory. Under the direction of conductor Sébastien Boin, OSAMU brings together students from all faculties of the university and staff members, recruited at the highest level to play the great symphonic repertoire and contribute to its enrichment through the programming of contemporary creations. The Conservatoire National à Rayonnement Régional (CNRR) in Marseille provides logistical and human support and some of his best students join the orchestra. OSAMU now has 80 members.
This initiative is original in more than one way. On the one hand, there are not so many universities that promote amateur music, especially those that have a real symphony orchestra within them. On the other hand, future public events will focus on providing some keys to understanding the works performed, by opening the doors to those who consider the concert as a reserved genre.
In 2018/19, OSAMU performed at the Théâtre de la Criée and the Palais de la Bourse as part of the Dimanches de la Canebière and at the Théâtre Silvain in Marseille.
