What budget should I plan for my first month in France?

In order not to find yourself in difficulties, we advise you to plan for about 1,500 € for your installation costs (first rent and deposit, small furnishings...).

Where can I buy food?

You will find many supermarkets open in the region where you can buy food, hygiene products, and optionally all the everyday consumer goods you need. Be careful! In France, many of them close on Sundays and remain open during the week until 8pm at the latest.

Markets can sometimes be an alternative choice for a selection of products. You can find in these public places where craftsmen, farmers and merchants gather fresh, healthy and quality food products (fruits, vegetables, fish, meat and cold cuts, cheese, bread).

If you are struggling to make ends meet, you should know that there are food associations and grocery stores in Marseille and Aix-en-Provence that allow you to shop within your budget.

Where can I eat on campus?

Students regularly visit the CROUS university restaurants (RU) for budgetary and practical reasons. The university restaurants offer a choice of varied and inexpensive formulas:

  • Traditional menu: balanced meal consisting of an appetizer, meat/fish, vegetable and cheese or dessert.
  • Price of the meal: Approximately 3.30€ (1 euro for CROUS scholarship holders or those in financial difficulty)

How to subscribe to a telephone and internet service ?

The choice is very varied in terms of services and prices, as well as in terms of the duration of the commitment. There are phone packages starting at 2€ and phone + internet packages starting at 10€.

Can I play sports on campus at a reduced price?

YES!
Thanks to the SPORT Pack and the SPORT + Pack, AMU students can choose from over 80 sports activities available throughout Aix-Marseille University. For students, the Sport Pack gives you the right to practice two sports activities for free on any AMU campus with several options, either as free practice or as a rewarding practice.
