As a civic and European university alliance, CIVIS makes it a priority to address the major societal challenges facing the 21st century. CIVIS structures its teaching activities around these challenges, in relation to research and innovation, and accompanies them with civic engagement activities and partnerships with Mediterranean and African interlocutors.
CIVIS educational offer
CIVIS recognizes the importance of the Bologna process principles in increasing mobility between the 9 members of the Alliance and other partner universities in Europe, and ultimately, in creating a European Higher Education Area. To this end, CIVIS is planning the creation of a CIVIS identity card (for students but also for researchers and staff), the full recognition of credits obtained within the alliance, the diploma supplement, as well as measures supporting the social dimension of mobility, quality assessment processes, etc.

CIVIS service learning
As a European university, CIVIS is committed to supporting and promoting civic engagement in the participating institutions.
According to its mission statement, it considers "the European Civic University as a space for innovative and responsible teaching, research, cultural exchange and civic action within Europe from the Baltic to the Mediterranean, while engaging with the world, its people and its institutions.
Service Learning is an innovative educational approach that integrates this mission of innovative teaching and community engagement into the curriculum. It is an experiential educational method through which students engage in activities addressing real human and social needs and contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals. By integrating community service into the curriculum, CIVIS offers multi-level learning - teaching civic responsibility and strengthening communities through critical reflection.
