Summary of InCIAM's themes

Creativity - and the possible innovations that result from it - is an experiential and intellectual activity that takes place in individual or collective situations and has considerable, even major, societal repercussions. From scientific discoveries to cultural creations and all the transformations in people's daily lives (e.g. communication methods, design and arts, recreational activities, means of transport, health maintenance techniques), creativity is crucial to the adaptation of human beings to their environment and, conversely, to the adaptation of the environment to human expectations and needs. It is often essential for the improvement of the living conditions and even the pleasure of living of the latter.

This Institute, which focuses on creativity and innovation, conducts research and training activities on these themes, whether it is a question of learning to carry out creative activities in learning institutions and/or mobilising creative skills in order to implement them as effectively as possible in work or health contexts, or in various technological and/or artistic contexts. This Institute contributes to supporting a challenge of scientific and social progress. Specialists in creativity collaborate with specialists in innovation as well as with specialists in the sectors of application considered. These collaborations make it possible to understand a process that begins with the emergence of ideas (with the objective of

conditions that foster creativity) and continues through to the development and marketing of innovations. The fields of expertise of the members of the institute are thus combined and enriched by the multidisciplinary approach developed.

The understanding of the mechanisms and factors involved in creativity and innovation has concrete repercussions in terms of methods and tools to assist creativity as well as innovation management methods. The knowledge gained from this work is intended to be used to support the implementation of integrative approaches to creativity and innovation, leading to the development and implementation of innovations in the fields of health, education or work.
