Framework of the AAP OCEAN Summer school


The Ocean Sciences Institute (OCEAN) is one of the 18 institutes created by Aix-Marseille University, aiming to pursue the structuring of the site in terms of research - training - innovation, in particular by strengthening the links between training and research, interdisciplinarity and internationalization.

To support the above objectives, OCEAN proposes to finance up to 18 000 € for the organization of one or more summer schools in 2022.

  •     The summer school must at least be accessible to Master's students within the perimeter and be related to OCEAN's objectives and challenges.
  •     The summer school must take place before the end of July 2022, respect the A*MIDEX funding rules regarding expenses for events (see annex 1) as well as the DEVE-AMU procedures regarding the management of short courses.

Phase 1 proposals must be submitted by January 31, 2022, by completing the template in Appendix 1 on page 2 of the call and emailing it to kalliopi Pediaditi.

A review by the OCEAN Summer School working group will take place and feedback will be provided by February 14, 2022.

The proposal must be signed by the component director, who will agree to take responsibility for administrative operations (such as issuing short course certificates, processing overtime for faculty, etc.).

Final Phase 2 proposals are due by February 18, 2022 incorporating the recommendations of the working group.

The OCEAN Education Committee will select the summer school project(s) to be funded and a response will be provided by March 1, 2022.

An informal webinar and interdisciplinary workshop on the summer school will be held on January 14, 2022, 12:30- 1:30 pm in which working group members and potential applicants can participate, with the goal of developing a proposal that is inclusive and interdisciplinary.

Evaluation Criteria


All proposals submitted will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:

  •     Interdisciplinarity (topic) - eligibility criteria
  •     Scientific excellence and innovative aspect of the disciplines (20%)
  •     Interdisciplinarity (student/teacher participation more than 1 OCEAN Master) (20%)
  •     Internationalization (visiting professors and international openness) (20%)
  •     Internationalization (international dimension - online) (Bonus 10%)
  •     IEM (case studies and IEM involvement) (10%)
  •     Quality of the proposed organization, administrative support (20%)
