Specific exchange programs

The ISEP network

The ISEP network includes nearly 350 institutions in over 50 countries. It is one of the largest student mobility networks in the world. The ISEP exchange program offers study stays with exemption of registration fees in the host university.

What are the financial conditions?

  • Payment of registration fees to AMU
  • Placement fee: €525
  • Semester "room & board" package in the host university: 3450 €/semester
  • Visa fees
  • ISEP health insurance: $95/month, $60/month for some countries

How to find a study stay?

  1. On the website, click on Start a Search
  2. Fill in your home university: Aix-Marseille University
  3. Fill in 2 essential fields: Academic level and ISEP Exchange
  4. Click on Apply Filters

How to apply?

During the AMU mobility campaign, candidates are asked to choose 5 to 7 host universities from the database displayed on the ISEP website and to draw up study contract projects in cooperation with the pedagogical referee. Once preselected, the candidate submits his/her application on the ISEP platform. ISEP-Global then informs the candidate of the placement result.

What are the prerequisites?

  • To be registered at Aix-Marseille University the year before the mobility.
  • Minimum level of studies: to be holder of a Licence 2/DUT/BUT at the time of departure.
  • English: official TOEFL score minimum 80/120 if the courses are taken in English
  • Other languages: ISEP Language Evaluation certificate (ISEP model)
  • Have university transcripts available, including bachelor's degree (English translations are required by many universities) and a letter of recommendation of high quality.
  • Have a passport valid for 6 months after the end of the study period.
  • Have sufficient financial resources: the student must be able to demonstrate financial autonomy for the duration of the exchange (bank statements, proof of financing).

Country specificities

Equivalences between the French university systems

  • Undergraduate level = Licence 1 to Master 1 included (bac+1 to bac+4 included)
  • Graduate level = from Master 2 (bac+5 to bac+7)

There is no official equivalence of credit transfer between U.S. credits and ECTS credits, but most American universities convert 1 U.S. credit into 2 ECTS credits. To find out the number of credits required, please refer to the AMU course director (course prepared during the mobility year). More information is available on the fullbright website.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Be registered at AMU during the year preceding the exchange and during the exchange year
  • To have completed your Bachelor's degree 2 (no modules to be made up)
  • Be at least in Licence 3 during the academic year of the exchange
  • Be able to present the result of a language test to be provided during the internal AMU pre-selection.

Administrative procedures after admission

  • The J visa must be obtained by students participating in an exchange program. Exchange students must submit the visa application form (DS-2019 form) issued by the American institution to the consular services. Upon receipt of your DS-2019 form (or even before) you must make an appointment with the consular services of the U.S. Embassy in Paris.
  • For international students, it is mandatory to subscribe to a health insurance. You can choose either the health coverage offered by your host American university or a private insurance: a complementary health insurance in France: get in touch with the student mutual insurance companies to find out about their offers specially designed for students who go abroad, or a classic private insurance organization.
