Specific relations with the United Kingdom
Following the United Kingdom's decision to leave the European Union, exchanges with British universities are considered as a destination outside Europe and no longer systematically offer the advantages that were specific to it: grants, simplification of administrative procedures, recognition of credits, etc.
As a result, since the end of the Erasmus+ agreements with the United Kingdom, Aix-Marseille University has been working to consolidate historical and strategic partnerships with this country. The University of Glasgow, a member of the CIVIS network, is the leading British partner, but other agreements and conventions have also been negotiated at the component level with other British universities.
For more information on the agreements and conventions specific to the components, we invite you to contact the international relations department of your campus.
The specificities of the country
The British university system is composed of two levels:
Undergraduate :
- Bachelor: License (Bac +3)
- Bachelor of Honor: Master 1 (Bac +4)
Postgraduate:
- Master : Master 2 (Bac +5)
- PhD : Doctorate (Bac +8)
Administrative procedures after admission
To travel to the UK to study, an identity card is no longer sufficient and all travelers, including students, must havea valid passport.
A language test is generally required. However, for certain agreements between Aix-Marseille University and British universities, it is not systematically necessary. However, here is what is generally required:
- Most requested test: IELTS - score of 7 or higher in general
- Price of the test: 240€.
- Several sessions per month in Aix, Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Nice, Toulouse and Strasbourg
- Validity period: 2 years
- Other tests and diplomas accepted: Cambridge (Advanced or Proficiency), TOEFL (check with the host university)
Tuition fees are waived for our exchange students but registration fees apply for double degrees with the UK.
A visa is usually required. If you are studying a postgraduate degree at a UK university or participating in an exchange program, a visa will be required. Stays of less than six months are exempt from this requirement. Once again, we invite you to contact the international relations department of your university or a British consulate.
