Organigramme Cellule Europe Recherche

Led by the Direction de la Recherche et de la Valorisation, the University's European research policy aims to support the implementation of institutional projects as well as participation in European research and innovation programs.
On January 1, 2024, the Mission Europe pour la Recherche (MER) replaced the university's Cellule Europe Recherche. MER will take over all pre-award activities previously carried out by AMU and its subsidiary Protisvalor. Financial management of European projects will continue to be handled by Protisvalor. AMU's representative office in Brussels retains its role of influencing and representing the university to European institutions.

1. Introducing the Mission Europe pour la Recherche

The Mission Europe pour la Recherche (MER) brings together the operational "Europe" teams of AMU, CNRS, Inserm and IRD, to support researchers and teacher-researchers on the Aix-Marseille site in all activities linked to European research and innovation projects, from detection/awareness-raising to the preparation of responses to calls for proposals, followed by negotiation and non-financial monitoring of projects. The result of a strong and ambitious political decision by the four establishments, it aims to offer a better service to units and researchers, while improving the positioning of our four establishments in European projects.

This "Guichet unique" (one-stop shop), staffed by around twenty people, is organized around major areas of activity:

Les 4 domaines d'activité de la MER sont la stratégie, la detection, l'ingénierie, la contractualisation et le management et le soutien transverse

2. Supporting participation in the Horizon Europe program

With 117 projects accepted and €71.55M obtained as part of the Horizon 2020 program, Aix-Marseille Université was the No. 1 French university in the health program and No. 2 in terms of grants obtained .
As improving these results is Aix-Marseille Université's objective for the current program, researchers and teacher-researchers benefit from support at every stage:

  • Detection, awareness-raising: Pôle Détection de la MER
  • Networking : MER/Brussels office
  • Organization and running of training courses: MER
  • Management of incentive policy and HR measures: MER
  • Strategy for participation in the Horizon Europe program: MER
  • Project engineering (set-up, negotiation and non-financial follow-up) : MER
  • Financial management of projects : Protisvalor
  • Representation of AMU to the European Commission : Brussels Office

3. Participate in the CIVIS European Alliance

Since 2019 Aix-Marseille Université has been coordinating an alliance of 11 universities in Europe grouped together to form a genuine inter-university and multidisciplinary campus whose aim is to enable students, academics, researchers and staff to move and collaborate as freely as in their home institutions.
The research and innovation dimension of CIVIS has been strong from the outset, with the establishment of a Research Council bringing together the Research Vice-Presidents of the eleven universities, an Expert Group made up of operational experts for projects linked to Horizon Europe, and the submission and winning of European R&I projects. The Alliance also facilitates collaboration between research teams.

Alliance members CIVIS Aix-Marseille University, Free University of Brussels, Autonomous University of Madrid, University of Stockholm, University of Athens, University of Bucharest, Sapienza Universita de Roma, Universität Tübingen, University of Glasgow, Paris Lodron University Salzburg and University of Lausanne.
