The Sainte-Victoire mountain ecosystem

Sainte-Victoire

Round table at the Cube - Thursday, December 5 at 6pm
3 voices to shed light on 3 aspects of the mountain's history since the Sainte-Victoire fire

Thursday, December 5, 2019
Le Cube - Plateau Hall (29 av. Robert Schuman, Aix-en-Pce)

On August 28, 1989, a gigantic fire ravaged the Sainte-Victoire massif. Within 3 days, more than 5000 hectares were destroyed, or 60% of the site. The images of desolation of this emblematic mountain were then at the origin of an awareness and a great movement of solidarity.

On the occasion of the Fabienne Verdier exhibition and her work on Sainte-Victoire, the Granet Museum, the Grand Site Sainte-Victoire and the Université Aix-Marseille are hosting a round table discussion on the evolution of the mountain ecosystem after the 1989 fire. Cyrille Naudy, Director of the Grand Site Sainte-Victoire, Gilles Cheylan, Naturalist at the Natural History Museum of Aix-en-Provence and Laurent Coursol of the association Pour Sainte-Victoire come back to the tremendous mobilization that followed the tragedy, the institutional response, the restoration of the site by people, the resilience of nature, the collaborations set up to maintain a living site, both welcoming and preserved, maintained and developed.

This debate will be followed by the screening of the film made by the Grand Site Sainte-Victoire in 2019 in commemoration of this great fire.
