At the invitation of Mr. Eric BERTON, President of Aix-Marseille Université, and academic partners (Sciences Po-Aix, Ecole de l'Air, Ecole des Officiers de la Gendarmerie Nationale et Centrale Marseille), the 1st council of the doctoral program "Defense and Homeland Security" was held at the university's headquarters. An initiative launched for the decade from 2020 to 2030.

The new "Defence and Homeland Security" Doctoral Program aims to provide doctoral students with additional training to complement their doctoral thesis project, opening the door to successful careers in the defence and security sectors, both national and international.
The initiative is located in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône thanks to interministerial cooperation between entities under the Ministry of Research and Higher Education and regalian ministries, in particular the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of the Armed Forces. This innovative doctoral programme, supported by the Defence Innovation Agency (AID), the Pôle Judiciaire de la Gendarmerie Nationale (PJGN) and the Institut Franco-Allemand de Recherches de Saint Louis (ISL), asserts France's ambition to make the Aix-Marseille Universite (AMU) a major centre for university research in defence and internal security and for the academic training of senior executives and experts in Europe.
