The 4th seminar of the Ampiric 2022 cycle on learning mathematics and learning through modeling will be held on April 27, 2022 at the Jean-Claude IZZO College

The Cognitive Foundations of Mathematical Thinking by Patrick Lemaire

In this presentation, Patrick Lemaire will discuss current work on mathematical cognition, focusing on the child up to 10 years old. He will present how, from the very beginning, the baby has numerical and mathematical intuitions on which later learning is based, before acquiring the bases of counting and the symbolic system of numbers, as well as the procedures of calculation.
It will show how this learning process mobilizes, like all other school learning processes, general and specific cognitive mechanisms in mathematics.

Mathematical and numerical modeling, a project supported by the CréativLab, by Rachid Zarouf and Jean-François Hérold
How can we support middle and high school students in the realization of mathematical models in situations that include digital technology?
In the end, do the modeling skills developed in this way promote all learning?
Rachid Zarouf and Jean-François Hérold will present the state of play of the "Mathematical and Digital Modeling" project that was supported by Ampiric's CréativLab in 2021.
