Postdoctoral Research

Co-financing of postdoctoral contracts by the Institute and its partners, in connection with the projects of the "Mediterranean Societies in Transition" Institute's scientific axes

The Institute "Mediterranean Societies in Transition" (SoMuM) is conceived as a pole of convergence of research and training skills in Humanities and Social Sciences. Post-doctoral research contributes to the construction of this strong link between research and training in the field of Mediterranean Studies.

Within the framework of its partnership relations, the Institute co-finances postdoctoral contracts, thus formalizing an institutional and sustainable collaboration with academic, socio-economic, cultural or civil society stakeholders. A first collaboration was born with the Museum of Civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean, allowing a first recruitment of postdoctoral students as soon as the Institute was launched in 2020. This first collaboration paves the way for other partnerships between SoMuM and academic/non-academic actors, with a view to reconciling three of the Institute's objectives:

  • Inventing a new form of coordination between research, teaching and innovation
  • Establishing a partnership with socio-economic and cultural actors, based on increased sharing of resources and convergence of our objectives.
  • Developing research anchored in the field and connected to national and local actors.

On the basis of one to two-year contracts, SoMuM wishes to encourage the recruitment of post-doctoral students in one of the Institute's three scientific areas: 1. Transitions, lasting Destabilisation and Crises; 2. Dynamics, Circulation, Cultural Heritage; 3. Territorial recomposition and interactions.

Selected candidates benefit from a double attachment: to the co-financing partner organisation and to one of the laboratories within the SoMuM perimeter. Candidates are recruited at a local, national and international level. Indeed, the objectives of developing a research of excellence, innovation, and interdisciplinarity on the current challenges of the Mediterranean intersects the requirements of a high level training, international and open to the socio-economic world.
