The Accounting Officer is appointed, on the proposal of the President of the University, jointly by the Minister in charge of Higher Education and the Minister in charge of the Budget. He or she shall perform his or her duties in accordance with the rules laid down by Decree No. 2012-1246 of 7 November 2012 on public budget and accounting management.

Its mission is twofold: to keep the institution's accounts and, in this respect, to produce an annual financial account. It has the independence necessary for the exercise of its functions as public accountant: taking charge of and collecting revenues, paying expenses, and keeping and conserving funds and assets belonging to or entrusted to the institution.

He/she participates in an advisory capacity in the Board of Governors and other administrative bodies of the university. Actor in the modernization of budgetary and financial policy, he advises the President in his areas of responsibility and assists him in the management of the institution.

Within Aix-Marseille University, the Accounting Officer, assisted by a Deputy Director, manages the Accounting Agency organised around the following three main business areas:


A "Steering & Transversal Operations Department" unit ensures the internal control of the Accounting Agency.
