The Council is composed of 19 members with 20 deliberative votes.
- College 1, composed of the directors of the components, will include 5 members representing 10 votes.
These components are OSU Pythéas, the Faculty of Sciences, the Faculty of Arts, Letters, Languages and Humanities, the Faculty of Law and Political Science, and the Ecole Centrale Marseille (ECM).
- College 2 will also have 10 votes and will be made up of the 14 directors of research units, namely the directors of MIO, CEREGE, IMBE, DICE/CERIC, ESPACE, TELEMME, IRPHE, LMA, LCE, CDE, CPPM, LIS, IRSN and IFREMER.

Members in an advisory capacity : The members of the Institute Council who have an advisory capacity are the Institute Director, the Deputy Directors, the Project Leader, as well as the Director of the Doctoral College and a representative of the doctoral students (one titular and one substitute). The latter will be appointed by the Institute Director on the proposal of the assembly of students of the Institute's program and of doctoral students funded by the Institute.
Depending on the agenda of the meetings, the Institute Council may invite experts on an ad hoc or permanent basis.
