Bio-inspiration

Designing
Erik Vanhoutte, PhD student at the Institute of Movement Sciences (ISM), Biorobotic Team

Classes from the 6th grade onwards

In this workshop, students will discover the principles of bio-inspiration and its interest in the development of new scientific ideas and technologies. They will look for examples of objects, structures, sensors or behaviours inspired by nature in their daily lives. They will then use the example of a remote-controlled robot to understand how bio-inspired sensors can improve a robot's behaviour. They will implement a bio-inspired system (sonar, "tactile" antennas, optical flux, etc.) on the robot and will study its behaviour according to the values sent by the sensors. The older ones can be introduced to programming by completing the computer code that governs the robot's behaviour.
