Interdisciplinarity(s) Conference

COLLOQUIUM OF THE NATIONAL NETWORK OF HUMAN SCIENCE CENTRES (ONLINE)

The principle of multidisciplinarity, as a propaedeutic to interdisciplinarity, is, thanks to Fernand Braudel, creator of the first MSH, at the foundation of the identity of the Maisons des Sciences de l'Homme. A few decades after this founder, it seemed of great importance to return to this question of interdisciplinarity and to do so within the framework of what is now a national network composed of 22 MSH adhering to a Charter whose first objective is precisely interdisciplinarity considered at a double level: between the disciplines of the humanities and social sciences, but also with other sciences.

The approach consisted in examining the interdisciplinary experiences of the MSHs in order to put them in perspective with the existing forms in other structures, in other institutional contexts, such as the CNRS, higher education institutions, the Athena alliance, the ANR and European programs. The analysis of practices has introduced general debates on the reality, potentialities, difficulties, myths or impossibilities of interdisciplinarity.

Thus, following a series of exchange workshops held in September 2021, focused on interdisciplinarity at work within or under the aegis of the MSHs themselves, a new stage of this collective reflection will open on January 13 and 14, 2022. These two days will be devoted to placing what the MSHs do, or what they could do, within the framework of broader reflections: on the current realities of interdisciplinarity(ies) in their different facets, on the power to define interdisciplinarity(ies) from an epistemological point of view and in the face of "societal challenges", and on the choice of mechanisms likely to foster interdisciplinarity.

Finally, it is a question of deepening the place and the specific role of the national MSH system in the mobilizations of interdisciplinary research required by the dynamics of knowledge and by the challenges facing our societies.
