New success for the European University CIVIS

Visuel actualité financement Horizon 2020 3

Aix-Marseille Université, which is coordinating the construction of the European CIVIS University, has just achieved another success: it has just obtained European funding of 2.3 million euros, as part of the Horizon 2020 programme, aimed at attracting and training talented young post-doctoral researchers. The young recruits will work on one or more of the 5 major contemporary challenges that CIVIS has chosen to address.

Aix-Marseille Université and the universities of the Alliance meet a new success with the "CIVIS3i" project coordinated by AMU, winner of the European call for projects COFUND - Fellowship Programme 2020 within the framework of the Actions Marie Skłodowska-Curie - H2020.

The new CIVIS3i project, entitled "The CIVIS Alliance Programme for International, Interdisciplinary, Intersectoral Research and Training for Experienced Researchers", will establish an integrated CIVIS-wide programme for the attraction, mobility and training of post-doctoral students. This will be done in coherence with the structuring actions that the CIVIS Research programme (RIS4CIVIS) will enable to set up.

CIVIS3i is designed to attract 32 talented researchers from around the world to CIVIS, by providing a favorable environment to conduct research excellence, training adapted to the needs of researchers and support for their careers. These researchers, selected through two calls for applications, will benefit from 24-month postdoctoral fellowships. They will have to present an ambitious research project that meets the three "i's" of CIVIS3i: international, interdisciplinary and intersectoral. The international component of these research projects may include the secondment of the postdoctoral fellow to a CIVIS partner university for defined periods, thus strengthening research links within the Alliance. In order to facilitate the intersectoral dimension of the research carried out, the CIVIS3i programme is supported by a network of 24 non-academic partner organizations from the CIVIS Alliance countries.

CIVIS3i will start before the summer of 2021, and will allow the recruitment of the first post-doctoral students in the fall of 2021. 10 of these researchers will join Aix-Marseille Université. The project has a total budget of around 4.4 million euros, including European funding (H2020) of more than 2.3 million euros. The A*Midex excellence initiative is co-financing the programme to the tune of 900,000 euros. Three CIVIS partners - the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the Autonomous University of Madrid, and the Sapienza University of Rome -are also co-financing the programme. It will be coordinated by Aix-Marseille Université, in particular its Research and Development Department, with the support of Protisvalor Méditerranée and the A*Midex university foundation.

The Alliance was given a new dimension in July 2020 with the award of the H2020 "RIS4CIVIS" project, which aims to strengthen the research dimension of the European CIVIS University. This 3-year project aims to structure a common Research & Innovation strategy for the CIVIS consortium by sharing infrastructures, good practices in terms of Human Resources, an Open Science vision and by reinforcing collaboration with companies and civil society. This project will serve as a basis for experimentation implemented by CIVIS3i.
