Types of funding

There are different possibilities/types of funding for the thesis. First of all, there is the doctoral contract, which is one of the main sources of funding for the doctorate in France. At Aix-Marseille University (AMU), the recruitment process of doctoral students on the doctoral contracts of the institution is organized in very large part by the doctoral schools (ED) (see ED websites) and in part by the doctoral college which coordinates 5 thesis call for projects (AAP) schemes: Inter-ED, AMU-DGA (DGA partners club), AMU-CEA Cadarache, International SHS Partnership and H2020-MSCA-COFUND DOC2AMU programme.

Other sources of funding for the thesis include CIFRE (Convention Industrielle de Formation par la Recherche) contracts, EJD (Emploi Jeunes Doctorants) funded by the PACA (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur) regional council, Labex, A*MIDEX, ...

Most French research organisations, EPST (CNRS, INRIA, IRD, ...) or EPIC (CEA, IRSN, CNES, ...) also fund thesis projects in the form of doctoral or research contracts. There are also other sources of thesis funding offered by research foundations or associations (FRM, AFM, Ligue contre le cancer, Oréal, ...).
