Since Wednesday, February 9, 2022, Aix-Marseille Université (AMU) has been a signatory of the San Francisco Declaration, better known by its acronym DORA (Declaration on Research Assessment). The international DORA initiative recognizes the need to improve methods for evaluating research results.

This declaration, drawn up in 2012, covers all disciplinary fields of knowledge and all research stakeholders (funding agencies, publishers, institutions, researchers, etc.)

The principles of the declaration are articulated around 3 main points:

  1. The need to end the use of journal-based indicators, such as impact factors, for funding, recruitments and promotions
  2. Evaluation based on the intrinsic value of the research, rather than on the journal in which it is published
  3. A better exploitation of the possibilities offered by online publishing, freeing itself from the constraints of traditional publishing, and providing relevant metrics.

AMU is already committed to this dynamic through the European HRS4R label, in which a significant part has been dedicated to open science. Within this framework, the institution explicitly displays its evaluation criteria for all recruitment, tenure and promotion processes. AMU defines qualitative assessment criteria and is progressively implementing the necessary resources to take into account the value and impact of all research output, including research data, codes and software.

AMU is also strengthening its involvement in the global process of research evaluation reform by fully supporting the Paris call presented at the European Open Science Days (OSEC ) held on February 4-5, 2022.
