Financing Options for Studying at amU


Aix Marseille Université offers several scholarship and financial aid programs designed to support international students at various stages of their academic journey. Whether it’s the TIGER scholarship, the AMIDEX scholarship, the Eiffel scholarship, or scholarships administered by Campus France, these programs aim to support academic excellence, international mobility, and study plans in France.

TIGER Excellence Scholarship

Aix Marseille Université has made international mobility and welcoming international students a pillar of its attractiveness policy. To this end, it has set up a unique system of excellence scholarships to fund outstanding profiles from all over the world, enabling them to join the ranks of our university.

You don't need to take any specific steps to apply for this scholarship : all you need to do is submit the application form required for each master's program via the corresponding application platform. Every year, many students apply for these courses.

A TIGER Master's Excellence Scholarship provides you with funding, accommodation and a warm welcome:

  • amU finances you up to €10,000 for one academic year.
  • The university will reserve a room for you in a CROUS hall of residence(provided you complete the necessary formalities in goodtime).
  • It will also take care of you from the moment you arrive in France, and accompany you throughout your stay.

Please note: despite receiving a grant, non-European international students subject to differentiated fees will still have to pay these fees to enroll in the course of their choice.

Step 1 : I choose my Master's program from among the eligible programs.
Step 2 : I submit my application for the course of my choice (via the appropriate platform depending on my personal situation).
Step 3: The course coordinators review the applications and select those who will receive the scholarship.
Step 4 : I receive my admission letter.
Step 5: If I have been selected for the scholarship, I will receive my letter of award shortly afterwards.

The selection process is particularly rigorous: only candidates whose applications are judged to be excellent are selected and awarded the TIGER Master Excellence Scholarship. In the absence of notification of award, the application should be considered unsuccessful.

Amidex Scholarship

The AMIDEX grant is designed to promote the international mobility of Aix Marseille Université students, as well as the hosting of international students within the institution. It supports internships or study periods lasting at least one month for outgoing mobility, and at least two months for incoming mobility.

The Amidex grant can only be used for projects financed by the Amidex foundation via the Instituts d'établissement and Amidex calls for projects such as the International call for projects and the Multilingualism call for projects. These projects can use their Amidex funding to award mobility grants based on pedagogical criteria.

Students / future students: if you wish to apply for this scholarship :

  1. Check that the course you wish to enroll in is on the list.
  2. If it is, contact the course coordinator to find out how the grant is awarded.
  3. Apply for the course (via the appropriate platform depending on your personal situation).

NB: Fondation Amidex is not involved in student selection.

Since September 2024, international students subject to differentiated fees have been exempted from up to 75% if they are recipients of an Amidex incoming mobility grant. To find out more, visit the page dedicated to differential fees.

Eiffel Scholarship 

The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program was launched in January 1999 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with Campus France. It aims to support French higher education institutions in recruiting the best international students for master’s and doctoral programs. More info

To apply for the Eiffel Scholarship, Aix Marseille Université (amU) must first receive your application and conduct a preliminary screening based on certain eligibility and excellence criteria. The university will then forward your application directly to Campus France so that it can be evaluated by an external review committee. Master's level

To apply for the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship at the master’s level, you must follow these four steps:

Identify the program you wish to enroll in. Be sure to note the faculty/institute/school to which it belongs and the exact name of the program in French, as this information will be requested on the application form.

Prepare your application. You must provide:

  • your resume, detailing your academic background and professional experience, if applicable;
  • a cover letter explaining your career goals;
  • your transcripts from the last three years, as well as a copy of your most recent diplomas attesting to your academic excellence;
  • if applicable, a letter of recommendation (optional).

Please combine these documents into a single PDF file and name it: “Last Name.First Name”.

Please fill out the contact form with your personal information by November 11, 2026. You must submit your supporting documents when you submit the form. Please do not provide any additional documents other than those requested (for example, your identification documents). Incomplete, incorrect, or late applications will not be considered.

Your application will be reviewed by an academic committee. If your application is selected, you will be contacted by XX/XX/XXXX (date to be announced) with information on the next steps. If you have not been contacted by that date, it means your application was not selected.

Doctoral Level

To apply for the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship at the doctoral level, you must follow these five steps:

Contact the Doctoral School relevant to your field of study to find out the admission requirements.

Find a thesis advisor at Aix Marseille Université.

Prepare your application. You must provide the following documents:

  • A copy of your passport or ID;
  • A resume written in French or English;
  • Degrees and academic standing: a copy of your most recent degree(s), including your academic standing, rank, and any other documents attesting to your academic excellence;
  • Transcripts for the last three years;
  • A career plan written in French or English (1 to 2 pages) explaining why you have chosen to study in France for your future professional career. This plan may be supported by a recommendation from individuals outside the institution, such as a company representative or a training manager.
  • A presentation of the thesis proposal and research progress, written in French or English (1 to 5 pages), detailing the thesis topic, research objectives and hypotheses, the innovative nature of the project, and its impact and benefits;
  • A reasoned assessment of the scientific quality of the thesis topic written by an expert (university professor/research director) in the relevant field of research—who must be from outside Aix-Marseille University—along with the expert’s CV;
  • A comprehensive funding plan for the thesis;
  • A thesis co-supervision agreement or a certificate of co-supervision signed by the French and foreign parties for all applications (with the exception of first-time applicants for the first year of a thesis program and those applying for a 36-month Eiffel scholarship: co-supervision is not required in these cases).

Please email all supporting documents to the International Relations Office - DRI (dri-bourse-eiffel@univ-amu.fr) by November 25, 2026, and copy your thesis advisor on the email. The thesis advisor will be responsible for obtaining the recommendations from the director of the host laboratory and the director of the affiliated doctoral school; these are required fields in the application. 
In the subject line, write: “Eiffel Doctoral Fellowship – Complete Application.”

The International Relations Office - DRI will respond by providing you with access to the online application form and instructions on the next steps to take.

Campus France scholarships

Campus France offers, on behalf of the French government and numerous partners, various scholarship programs for international students who wish to pursue their studies in France. Depending on the program, these scholarships may cover all or part of the costs associated with studying and living in France, including living expenses, insurance, and travel costs.
