Created on January1, 2012 from the merger of the region's three universities, Aix Marseille Université (amU) today welcomes 84,000 students across 5 campuses.

Inventiveness
To provide innovative answers to the challenges of our time
amU is a driving force behind the region's entrepreneurial dynamism. It relies on a structured ecosystem (Pépite Provence in particular) to transform the work carried out in its laboratories into marketable projects. Since 2024, it has been piloting the Pôle Universitaire d'Innovation Provence, endowed with €16.5 million over 4 years, with the ambition of multiplying the creation of deeptech start-ups. At the heart of this momentum: CISAM. Founded in 2018, the Cité de l'Innovation et des Savoirs federates companies, manufacturers and financiers around the same conviction: innovation is built together. Recognized in 2022 as one of the 25 places transforming innovation in France, it now irrigates campuses via its Cisam+ network.
Commitment
For a socially responsible university
In addition to its cultural hubs and the quality of its sports policy to ensure the well-being of its students, amU is committed to inclusion and diversity on a daily basis. In response to sexist and sexual violence, harassment and discrimination, it has set up the Service pour le Respect et l'Égalité, an independent, professionalized service that is unique in France. In 2024, it also signed the Autre Cercle Charter of Commitment for the inclusion of LGBT+ people in higher education. It also guarantees free access to healthcare on its campuses, via health centers in Marseille and Aix-en-Provence, complemented by preventive medicine branches. As for disabilities, they are the subject of separate, dedicated support for students and staff.
