Hanoi University of Science and Technology (USTH)

The Hanoi University of Science and Technology (USTH) is a public university established in 2009 under an intergovernmental agreement between Vietnam and France. Since 2010, Aix Marseille Université has been a founding member of the USTH Consortium, which aims to enhance the development of the USTH.

USTH, the fruit of Franco-Vietnamese cooperation

The Hanoi University of Science and Technology is a symbol of fruitful and innovative cooperation between France and Vietnam in the fields of education and research.

The Hanoi University of Science and Technology is a new model of university for Vietnam, combining education, research and partnerships with business. It offers high-level scientific teaching with the aim of training Vietnam's future teachers-researchers and managers with an international dimension.

To enhance the quality of student training, the USTH is committed to

  • Create a new model of university management
  • Building a university of excellence with an international reputation
  • Reform higher education in Vietnam
  • Building sustainable, high-level scientific and technological cooperation between France and Vietnam.

The USTH university curriculum

Studying at the USTH means benefiting from high-quality teaching in English, with an international outlook, technological innovation and the business world in mind. It also means receiving a degree accredited by France, and consequently by the European Union and Vietnam, in accordance with the Bologna Convention : Licence, Master, Doctorat in 3/5/8 years respectively, and the ECTS European credit system.

Thanks to the intergovernmental agreement between Vietnam and France, the USTH Consortium is able to award :

  • a Vietnamese Bachelor's degree in Science and Technology, in the process of being accredited by France,
  • six Masters degrees, all accredited by France
  • a Vietnamese Doctorate degree.

Thus, a student receiving a Master's degree from the USTH Consortium holds a Vietnamese diploma and a diploma from one of the French partner universities (French national diploma), including Aix-Marseille Université.

Thanks to the 2010 USTH Consortium, Aix-Marseille Université has become a real partner of the Hanoi University of Science and Technology (USTH).

Previously, formalized cooperation had taken the form of the accreditation of three delocalized Masters programs, whose accreditation was renewed in 2016 until 2021:

  • Materials and Nanotechnologies;
  • Information and Communication Sciences and Technologies;
  • Biotechnology-Pharmacology.

What are the prospects for Aix Marseille Université students?

Since then, and in the context of the evolution of its Masters in HCERES in 2021, the USTH has launched a new strategic orientation project for the next 5 years. This project responds to various internal issues at the USTH, as well as to changes in the Vietnamese socio-economic environment.

Aix Marseille Université is participating in this new project, and is fully in line with the French government's political initiative for scientific cooperation with Vietnam.

With this in mind, on Tuesday February 22, 2022, at the close of the USTH Consortium's General Meeting in September 2021, Mr Eric Berton decided to deepen the Franco-Vietnamese collaboration by signing an agreement to set up a Double Degree in Chemistry, Physics-Chemistry with international mobility. Students will spend the first two years of their Bachelor's degree in Hanoi, before returning to France for the third year.
