Test de Connaissance du Français pour la Demande d'Admission Préalable à l'Université (TCF DAP) (French language test for university applications)


Description

The Test de Connaissance du Français (TCF) specific to the Demande d'Admission Préalable ("TCF for DAP") is required for all foreign students* wishing to enroll in the first year of a Bachelor's degree (L1) at a university or architecture school in France.
This certification of French language skills accompanies the DAP file (also known asthe "Green File"): see information on the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation page.

Each year, a single TCF session for the DAP is organized by each university, usually in January or February, for the following academic year.

IMPORTANT : Only candidates who have submitted a DAP application are entitled to register for the TCF DAP. For other TCF candidates, see the TCF tout public page.

2. Registration

BEFORE registering, please read the registration instructions carefully (in "Documents to download", opposite).

RATES :

Compulsory tests: €90.
Complementary tests: €45.
Compulsory + complementary tests: €170.

At the end of the procedure, remember to print out your registration confirmation.

N.B. It is normal for the TCF DAP to take place after the DAP files have been submitted (same deadline as for TCF registration).

3. TCF 2026 SESSION.

  • TEST: The next TCF session will take place on Thursday January 29, from 8:30am to 12pm.
  • PLACE: Ilôt Dubois (Marseille).
  • DOCUMENTS AND MATERIALS REQUIRED :
    Present yourself on time in front of the examination room with :
    • valid photo ID(passport, ID card, residence permit, asylum application, etc.)
    • a black ballpoint pen.
    • the TCF DAP registration confirmation (issued by FEi) and, if possible, the summons stamped by the university component (page 9 of the DAP file).
  • Other information :
    • Please come alone to the exam (no accompanying persons are allowed on university premises).

TCF results for DAP are generally available 2 weeks after the tests.

Candidates should sign and return a copy of their certificate as soon as possible to the school department where they submitted their DAP file (green file).

The level obtained corresponds to the overall score (average of MCQ tests), indicated in the 2nd column, as well as the level of the written expression test, which is indicated in the last column.
