FLE amU courses

Weekly 30-hour courses in French as a foreign language (FLE) for foreign students at Aix-Marseille University, open to the public (face-to-face and distance learning).


1. Description :

These courses are open to all non-French-speaking adults (students, employees, etc.) who hold at least the equivalent of a baccalaureate (high school diploma), as well as to all foreign students at AMU, through their home departments, research laboratories, the doctoral training department or the International Relations Department (DRI).
Students on international exchange programs managed by the DRI can also consult the FLE-DRI COURSES page.

They take place at the rate of 3 hours per week over 10-week sessions (total: 30 hours, except for students on exchange programs), during the two semesters of the academic year.

Course offerings:

There are four levels of French:

  • Beginner (base A0 to A1).
  • Elementary (A1 to A2).
  • Intermediate (A2 to B1).
  • Advanced French (B1+ to B2+/C1/C2).

For each level, several options are available to the student, according to the predefined timetable (available at the beginning of each session, see "Documents to download" on the right of this page).
These courses are held in two ways:
- face-to-face: 1 session of 3 hours per week, from 5pm to 8pm in Aix or Marseille.
- distance learning: 2 sessions of 1h30 per week, between 6pm and 7.30pm.

FLE courses calendar - AMU 2025-2026 :

  • 1st SESSION:
    October 06 to December 19, 2025; registration closed.
  • 2nd SESSION:
    January 26 to April 10, 2026; registrations October 15 to November 30, 2025; payment January 26 to 31, 2026.
  • 3rd SESSION:
    May 04 to July 10, 2026; registration February 23 to March 31, 2026; payment May 04 to 08, 2026.

2. Registration :

Required documents :
- the completed registration form (in "Documents to download" opposite). FLE-AMU course registration form.
- passport or residence permit.
- copy of equivalent baccalaureate diploma.

Payment: by cheque or bank transfer (see information on 2nd page of registration form). Payment must be made the week of the first course of the session.

Registrations can be made directly with the SUL schooling department or by contacting the schooling department via the contact form (heading"Cours FLE AMU").

  • PhD students:
    For doctoral students, registration and follow-up of FLE courses, please contact the Direction de la Formation Doctorale.
  • DRI:
    For DRI, registration and follow-up for FLE courses are via the Faculty's International Relations Service.
  • AMU staff:
    Staff wishing to take an FLE course should contact the HR department of their component for registration and follow-up.

3. Payment of FLE AMU 2025-2026 courses :

Payment of course fees must be made during the week of the first course of each session.

Individual students:

  • Standard rate: 375 €.
  • Reduced rate: 300 €.
    Discount applicable:
    • For a 2ᵉ and 3ᵉ enrollment in AMU FLE courses in the same academic year.
    • For students enrolled in the D.U. Langue et Culture Françaises in the same academic year.
    • For registered students already enrolled at AMU.

AMU students on exchange programs or attached to an organization:

AMU students on DRI exchange programs, those attached to a component (Faculty, Institute...), a research laboratory or the Doctoral Training Department benefit fromfinancial support provided they are enrolled via these organizations.

Further information :

Once enrolled, students take a placement test to determine the most suitable course level.
They then choose the location and timetable for their course.

Please note that for students from outside the European Union (EU) who wish to make a bank transfer, the banks directly deduct bank charges. The amount shown on the bank transfer receipt must correspond to the amount of the registration fee.

4. Evaluation :

If students attend all courses, they can earn 4 ECTS credits (to be confirmed with the component).
Students eligible for these credits are required to use the goFluent platform for 9 hours of FLE self-study. The AMU Language Resource Center team (CARLAM, 63 Canebière, Marseille 1ᵉʳ) is in charge of monitoring this learning.

A certificate stating the level "in progress" is available on request.
