What is a Special Study Program (RSE)?
Students who are unable to devote themselves full-time to their studies may apply for an RSE, which, depending on the circumstances*, allows them to:
- to be exempt from the rules limiting the number of consecutive semesters enrolled in the same program, so they can spread their coursework over a greater number of years,
- to receive priority in selecting tutorial and lab groups to better manage their schedules,
- to receive specific academic accommodations from their department (exemption from attendance requirements for TPs and TDs, access to online courses, end-of-term exams (instead of continuous assessment), special exam sessions, specific tools to compensate for a disability, and assistance with note-taking and exam administration…
At amU, the accommodations offered fall into two categories.
- Depending on the individual’s situation, certain accommodations are granted automatically by the department.
- Others are subject to approval by the degree program’s academic team andthe administration of the relevant department.
Who is this for?
Quite simply, the entire student body with special needs!
Please note: For each request, the department will review the application and determine the specific accommodations.

How should I proceed?
All requests for academic accommodations must be submitted to the student’s home department.
In the case of a disability or chronic illness:
The requested accommodations must take into account the disability or chronic illness. A collaborative effort between the preventive medicine services and the academic program representatives must be initiated.
> For assistance with these procedures, contact theDisability Services Office at your academic institution.
In all other cases:
Pick up an application form from the registrar’s office responsible for the program.
> Contact:Registrar’s Office.
If your situation requires more significant accommodations than those provided by the special study programs, please note that you also have the option of requesting a leave of absence. This allows you to temporarily suspend your studies in order to pursue a personal, professional, or community-based project, while maintaining a connection with Aix-Marseille University.
