Culture in all its forms, and the dissemination and construction of knowledge, are among the fundamental missions of universities. The creation of an Observatoire des publics et des pratiques de la culture (Observatory of cultural audiences and practices) is intended to assess the institution's actions and meet the growing demand for audience studies, both internally and from partners within the Aix-Marseille Université perimeter. This morning's presentation will provide an opportunity to learn more about this quantitative, qualitative, exploratory and interdisciplinary evaluation system and its missions.

By combining scientific rigor and exacting standards with professional expertise in terms of survey methodology and analysis, the Observatory lies at the interface between scientific research and the worlds of culture. The project team works in collaboration with a wide range of partners, including cultural and leisure organizations and institutions, local authorities and scientific culture networks. The result is tailored, localized studies that help the Observatory to shed light on public debates and contribute to the development of dialogue between science and society on cultural issues.

This morning's program includes a presentation of the Observatoire, as well as current and forthcoming surveys. In particular, participants will have the opportunity to find out more about a survey already carried out at the Fonds Régional d'Art Contemporain Provence-Alpes Côte d'Azur (FRAC), and to witness the feedback from this collaboration.

The Observatoire des publics et des pratiques de la culture is a project supported and financed by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research (formerly MESRI), coordinated within Aix-Marseille University by the MESOPOLHIS laboratory (UMR 7064).
