Introducing the Franco-German University

Founded in 1997 and funded equally by France and Germany, the Franco-German University (UFA) is an institution with international legal personality, whose aim is to improve and support cooperation in higher education between the two countries. Each year, it allocates an operating budget as well as financial aid to promote the mobility of its students, doctoral students and lecturers in the Franco-German programs it supports (at undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as in research).

UFA in figures:

  • 186 integrated Franco-Germandegree programs
  • Programs in over 130 cities across Europe and beyond
  • 25 Franco-GermanDoctoral Colleges and more than 440 PhD students
  • 208 higher education and researchestablishments
  • 6,400 students and 300 PhD students
  • Around 1,500 graduates a year
  • Nearly100 scientific events organized every year

UFA integrated curricula

Unlike traditional exchange programs, UFA students benefit from a curriculum developed jointly by French and German professors and researchers. They study together and spend part of their curriculum at the partner university. This gives them the opportunity to discover the university systems of the two (or even three) partner countries, and to develop their linguistic and intercultural skills. To this end, they receive a mobility grant of €300 per month for students and €600 per month for PhD students.

In order to maintain its scientific excellence, the UFA's integrated programs are evaluated every four years by a scientific commission and external experts.

The participation of students and doctoral candidates in UFA programs is a real asset on the job market. The results of UFA surveys show that, in addition to the acquisition of linguistic and cultural skills, participation in integrated curricula facilitates professional integration, adaptability and openness to the world.
