Iméra, the Institute for Advanced Studies at Aix Marseille University

  • Training
  • Interdisciplinarité

Iméra, the Institut d'études avancées (IEA) of Aix Marseille Université, is a sanctuary of academic freedom, welcoming researchers - scientists and artists - from all disciplinary and geographical backgrounds to its annual residency program in the heart of Parc Longchamp.

An interdisciplinary community for groundbreaking research

These researchers take advantage of the time, space and resources needed to explore, both individually and in collaboration with others, new meanings and contents that give rise to original interdisciplinary research.

The research carried out at Iméra is part of one or more research programs developed by the scientific team: Arts et Sciences : savoirs indisciplinés, Méditerranée, Explorations Interdisciplinaires et Utopies Nécessaires.

The Iméra spirit is embodied in an ideal of collective excellence characterized by the protection of individual time, while offering moments of collective emulation such as the weekly Community-Building Seminar.

Bringing together local and international research

Every year, in addition to these international residents, the institute welcomes up to four amU professors on research leave, through its annual CRCT (Congés pour Recherches ou Conversions Thématiques) campaign.

Iméra aims to anchor this international, interdisciplinary community in the scientific and artistic context of Aix-Marseille, creating and deepening links with the region's research centers, institutions and associations.

Finally, Iméra enjoys international recognition as a member of the European network of Instituts d'Etudes Avancées (NetIAS), as well as the international network of University-Based Institutes for Advanced Study (UBIAS).
