Student mobility in the framework of ERASMUS+.

Partir en programme d'échange

Created in 1987, the Erasmus + program promotes mobility actions towards European countries but also beyond the borders of Europe.

Going on an ERASMUS+ program

Who can go on an Erasmus+ program?

The student must :

  • Be registered at Aix-Marseille University
  • Have completed his/her first year of university studies and have obtained 60 ECTS credits for a study mobility (SMS)
  • Be able to leave during the first year for an internship mobility (SMT)
  • To carry out an internship as an integral part of the study program (= validated in ECTS credits)
  • Follow a study program sanctioned by a national diploma of higher education or a university diploma, doctoral level included
  • Be enrolled in a program that has signed a bilateral agreement to send and host a certain number of students during the academic year concerned in accordance with the mobility directory
  • Be selected by your department
  • Have paid the registration fees at Aix-Marseille University before their departure. He/she will be exempted from paying registration fees at the host university
  • Nationality criterion: any student regularly enrolled in an institution in one of the participating countries* in the Erasmus+ programme is eligible, whatever their nationality, subject to acceptance by the host university and, if necessary, to obtaining a visa.

Where can I go?

A student can go to any of the 27 European Union countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Turkey.

Since the beginning of the academic year 2022, Erasmus+ mobility to the United Kingdom is no longer part of the Erasmus+ program. This does not mean a total halt to mobility to the United Kingdom from the 2022-2023 academic year, since specific agreements and conventions have been signed with certain British universities. However, the attribution of an Erasmus+ scholarship (or others) will not be systematically granted to students wishing to go to the UK. Therefore, it will be possible to participate in double-degree or exchange programs, but students will potentially have to pay registration fees or other administrative costs.

For all questions related to the steps to follow, you can consult the following FAQ.

To find out about the possibilities of mobility to the United Kingdom and all the other conditions of mobility, we invite you to contact the international relations department of the DRI Campus or SRI component.

Academic recognition

  • An Erasmus+ Pedagogical Contract must be signed before departure, between the student and the tutor at Aix-Marseille University. This document is required at the time of pre-registration on the website of the host university. Upon arrival, the student must have the document signed by the tutor at the host university.
This contract can be modified, with the agreement of the pedagogical director, after the student's arrival abroad, if the modules chosen do not correspond to what was expected or to the level of study.

  • At the end of the study period abroad, the host university issues a transcript of records.
Upon the student's return, the academic supervisor issues a transcript of grades (out of 20) based on the one sent by the host university and a scale.
The transcript is signed by the director of the component and the course director.

  • Recognition and transfer of ECTS credits: students receive credits for academic work successfully completed in the host institution.
These credits are transferred on the basis of the prior agreement on the content of the study abroad program between the students and the institutions concerned, which is embodied in the Erasmus+ Pedagogical Contract signed by the three parties.
    One full-time semester = 30 credits, i.e. 1 credit for 25-30 hours of work; one year = 60 credits.
The ECTS grading scale has been defined within the framework of ECTS, developed by the European Union. As many different grading systems coexist in Europe, and the raw interpretation of grades can vary considerably from country to country, if not from institution to institution, the ECTS grading scale has been developed to become a reference and to facilitate the transfer of students and their academic profile between European higher education institutions. Grades are reported on a scale from A to F and accompanied by keywords and a short commentary.

Duration of mobility

  • Thestudy period in the partner university is a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 12 months per study cycle (Bachelor's, Master's, Doctorate).
  • The internship period is a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 12 months per study cycle (Bachelor, Master, Doctorate).
  • At the beginning and at the end of the period of study or internship abroad, the host university completes and authenticates the student's certificate of attendance.
  • The Erasmus+ 2021-2027 program has allowed the development of a new format of Erasmus+ short study mobility: the Blended Intensive Program. These new international mobility opportunities are hybrid and combine a virtual part and a physical part of at least 5 days. They are based on collaborative learning and allow for participation in transnational and transdisciplinary study programs based on research and societal challenges.
Example of mobilities eligible to the Erasmus+ program
Erasmus+ programme Host structure Duration Departure Multiple mobilities
SMS Study mobility Partner universities (see mobility directory)

from 3 to 12 months without interruption

from the 2nd year of higher education Up to 12 months maximum per study cycle (License, Master, Doctorate)
SMP Internship mobility Company or institution (ECHE holder or not)

from 2 to 12 months without interruption

from the 1st year of higher education

The following combinations are possible as long as the maximum funding period per study cycle is not exceeded

  • During the same year, 2 consecutive semesters of study mobility in 2 partner universities (UK and Spain for example) for a total duration of 12 months maximum.
  • During the same year, the first semester of study mobility carried out in a partner university and 1 internship mobility carried out during the second semester (total duration 12 months maximum).
  • During the same year, 2 semesters of study mobility and 1 internship period (total duration not exceeding 12 months)
  • In Licence 3, one 12-month study mobility and in Master 1 one 12-month study mobility.

Special cases:

  • Integrated programs where the mobility takes place over two consecutive years in the same degree.
Example: For the LEA Europe program, the 2nd year of mobility (which corresponds to the L3) is not financed by the Erasmus + program.

Budgetary conditions and Erasmus + allowance

  • The cost of living in the destination country is taken into account in the calculation of the grant (see mobility assistance page)
  • Please note: in order to encourage as many students as possible to go on a mobility programme, Aix-Marseille University reserves the right to only partially finance a student's mobility. For example, a 3-month internship mobility financed over 2 months.
  • Exemption from registration at the host university,
  • Travel, accommodation and other expenses are the responsibility of the student,
  • The scholarship holder keeps his or her higher education grant during the study period: the Erasmus+ grant mentioned above is added to this grant.
  • Financial supplements related to Inclusion or to the use of green transport
