Without funding

Some doctoral schools allow their doctoral students to do their thesis without funding. This is the case in particular in the Human and Social Sciences (SHS) and in Arts and Letters, where very few theses are funded.

Having another paid activity during your thesis is therefore often used in these disciplines, especially for holders of a CAPES or Aggregation. This solution can be very difficult. Please note that if you go down this path, the duration of your thesis will certainly be longer than 3 years. You will need to request one or more registration waivers.
