Feminicide: a social fact to be questioned

Based on the story of a trial for "murdering a woman" in 1847, kept in the judicial archives of the Var region, sociologists, historians, visual artists, photographers and writers have produced experiments and digital creations aimed at informing the general public while enriching contemporary scientific debates.

An artistic and scientific research

The aim is to identify the power issues involved in this violence from a historical and comparative perspective. Feminicides allow us to tell the story of patriarchal domination and virilist control, to analyse the risk factors, taboos and conflict situations and to deconstruct the sociosexual stereotypes that can be internalized by both men and women.

The project is both a methodological research that aims to mix the contributions of scientific knowledge with the sensitive approach of the plastic arts, photography or writing and a contribution of knowledge on a social fact, a recurrent object of recent public debates, but still too little studied in a scientific perspective.

An original tool for sharing knowledge

This web documentary is a way to present differently the results of research in the human and social sciences. The idea is to propose a toolbox that can be usede in a school, scientific and artistic context, so that gender studies research, and in particular research on feminicide, is accessible to as many people as possible.

Whether in secondary or higher education, in the political, artistic or associative spheres, or with the general public, the SAFé (Sciences Arts Féminicides) project hopes to circulate as widely as possible, at the university and beyond, to advance knowledge on this subject and, above all, to share it with society.
