The CMA CGM Group, Aix-Marseille Université and its Faculty of Medical and Paramedical Sciences are inaugurating the region's first Chair dedicated to health:

  • Through the funding of this Chair, the CMA CGM Group is pursuing its commitment to the region and to the health of its inhabitants.
  • The CMA CGM Aix-Marseille Université Health Chair has been established with the Faculty of Medical and Paramedical Sciences of Aix-Marseille Université.
  • It reflects the desire to work together on medical research, training for caregivers and quality of life for patients in oncology and neurology.

The CMA CGM Group, a world leader in maritime, land, air and logistics solutions, and Aix-Marseille Université (AMU) have announced the creation of the first university chair in the region dedicated to health. Created with the Faculty of Medical and Paramedical Sciences of Aix-Marseille Université, the Chair is intended to support the University's research and training activities on major public health issues, particularly neurology and oncology.

The first Chair in the region dedicated to health, for medical research, training of caregivers and quality of life for patients in oncology and neurology.
Driven by strong human values and deeply attached to its region, the CMA CGM Group is committed to health and medical innovation by funding this Chair at Aix-Marseille Université. The result of a collaboration between two key players in the region who share the values of solidarity and innovation, this Chair will carry out actions to support training, research and quality of care. These actions, aimed in particular at hospitals and patients, will be in line with the values of excellence and societal commitment promoted by Aix-Marseille Université.

The NeuroMarseille Institute and the Cancer and Immunology Institute will be at the heart of this Chair. The result of an interdisciplinary approach, they allow the intersection of training and high-level research. They also include programs for the development of clinical applications for the benefit of patients.
The work of the Chair will be based on the following objectives

  • Strengthening research: attracting young researchers in the fields of oncology and neurology, by offering postdoctoral fellowships for periods of three to four years, as well as awarding thesis prizes to reward the best theses in the same fields. - Develop training: support the careers of young doctors by financing mobility outside the Aix-Marseille Université hospital system. This mobility will allow them to learn new medical techniques that they will be able to apply upon their return to the hospital. The Chair will also propose the financing of doctoral contracts for theses in oncology and neuroscience.
  • Improving patient care and quality of life: supporting ambitious research projects and the acquisition of equipment with a potentially significant impact on clinical research and therefore on patients.

CMA CGM and Aix-Marseille Université are committed to health and medical innovation in the Aix-Marseille region. CMA CGM is committed to the development and influence of Marseille and its region, and is mobilizing for its inhabitants and their health through this Chair. Based in Marseille since its foundation in 1978, the Group undertakes local actions in order to have a positive social impact on the area to which it is particularly attached and where more than 2,900 of its employees live.

Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CMA CGM, said: "The pandemic has reminded us of the importance of the role of healthcare professionals. We are therefore proud to support them and their work through the creation of the first medical research chair at Aix-Marseille Université. Our donation will serve their mission: to train, to carry out research projects, to treat and to improve the quality of life of patients.
Georges Leonetti, Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Paramedical Sciences at Aix-Marseille Université, added: "This gift will have a significant impact. It will strengthen our ability to attract the best young researchers, and will also allow us to finance mobility for the transfer of knowledge and new medical techniques, in the interest of patients in Marseille.
Éric Berton, President of Aix-Marseille Université, said: "We are particularly pleased with this Chair, which will significantly boost our research and training efforts. The links between CMA CGM and Aix-Marseille Université send a strong signal to the entire population of Marseille and beyond, to our entire region, as they demonstrate our capacity to mobilize and cooperate in the service of social and societal progress.
