"Mediterranean Societies in Transition" Institute Coordination Team

The Coordination Team of the Institute "Mediterranean Societies in Transition" (SoMuM) is the steering body of the Institute. It meets on average twice a month in order to establish the Institute's strategy, coordinate its activities and lead the teams involved. The SoMuM Coordination Team relies on the expertise of a training working group, a research working group and three cross-cutting intersectorial committees.

Missions

  • Implementation of SoMuM's major strategic orientations, validated by the Board of Directors
  • Organisation of the governance of the Institute (Board of Directors, Advisory Board)
  • Implementation of training-research cooperation activities
  • National and international partnership policy
  • Administrative and financial management of SoMuM

Composition

The Coordination Team of the Institute "Mediterranean Societies in Transition" is composed of six people:

  • Sylvie Mazzella, Director

Sylvie Mazzella is Research Director at the CNRS in sociology. Her recent research focuses on South-North and South-South international migration. Sylvie Mazzella was Director of the Mediterranean Sociology Laboratory (LAMES) between 2013 and 2017. In 2005, she was attached to the Institut de recherche sur le Maghreb contemporain (IRMC) in Tunis where she coordinated an international research program on migration for four years qualifiées.

  • Chloé Chatelin, Project Manager

Chloé Chatelin holds a Master's degree in Applied Foreign Languages (La Sorbonne University) and a Master's degree in European Studies (Aix-Marseille University). After 15 years spent at the CNRS as an international cooperation officer at the Institute of Human and Social Sciences, then Project Manager and European Engineer at the Maison méditerranéenne des sciences de l'Homme, she joined Aix-Marseille University to become SoMuM project manager.

  • Isabelle Renaudet, Deputy Director Training

Isabelle Renaudet is Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Aix-Marseille, member of the UMR TELEMME of the CNRS. She is a history professor and former member of the Casa de Velázquez, and is a specialist in the contemporary history of Spain. Her research focuses on the history of the body, particularly the dead body, and health. She has been a Policy Officer at the AMU International Relations Department for the Mediterranean area and Scientific Director of the Téthys network of Euro-Mediterranean universities from 2017 to 2020.

  • Pascal Gauttier, Law Department Officer

Pascal Gauttier holds a doctorate in public law (Aix-Marseille University). After 12 years as pedagogical coordinator of the Institute of International Humanitarian Studies, then 4 years as administrative manager of the Centre d'Etudes et de Recherches Internationales et Communautaires (UMR International, Comparative and European Law, Faculty of Law and Political Science), he is currently in charge of supporting research and partnerships within CERIC.

  • Delphine Mercier, Deputy Research Director

Delphine Mercier is Director of Research in Sociology at the CNRS. Her research focuses on globalization, migration and international labour markets in Latin America, Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Delphine Mercier has been Deputy Director of the Laboratoire d'Économie et de Sociologie du Travail (LEST) since 2015. From 2009 to 2014 she was Director of CEMCA - Centre for Mexican and Central American Studies (MAE-CNRS) in Mexico City.

  • Sophie Bava, Mediterranean Africa Policy Officer

Sophie Bava is a socio-anthropologist at IRD, AMU-LPED. She is a member of the board of directors of the Movida International Joint Laboratory and editor of the journal Afrique(s) en Mouvement. Attached 3 years to the University of Cairo from 2008 to 2011 and 4 years to the International University of Rabat from 20014 to 2018, her research focuses on African migration and Muslim and Christian religious constructions between Mediterranean and sub-Saharan Africa.
