ISFIN - SCHOOLS

ISFIN supports and co-organizes schools offering the opportunity to future researchers, teachers and engineers to immerse themselves in the world of research in the fields of fusion and instrumentation in nuclear environments.

IIS - International Iter School

IIS 2021

The International ITER School (IIS) responds to the need for training in the current energy context, where fusion research is a cornerstone for the success of a large-scale project and its international impact. The IIS has naturally become a world reference in the framework of the ITER project.

The 11th ITER International School, on "The impact and consequences of energetic particles on fusion plasmas", organized by the University of Aix-Marseille, will be held in spring 2021 at the Hexagon, on the Luminy campus. As the start of ITER operations approaches, it is timely to address this cross-cutting issue that includes plasma self-heating by fusion-born alphas, the influence of energetic particles on stability, diagnosis of energetic particle transport and loss, and understanding leaky electrons.

The ITER International School aims to prepare young scientists and engineers to work in the field of nuclear fusion and the research applications associated with the ITER project. This thematic school responds to the need to mobilize future scientists and engineers on a range of different topics as well as to provide them with an overview of the interdisciplinary skills required by the ITER project.

EFMMIN 2018

The sixth edition, which will take place in Marseille, will focus on innovative detectors and sensors. Due to the current health situation, the rescheduling has not yet taken place. For more information: EFMMIN

This biennial school was created in 2010. It is organized alternately at Mohammed V University and Aix-Marseille University. On the Moroccan side, it involves the Faculty of Sciences of Rabat, the CNESTEN nuclear center and the Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (AMSSNuR), and on the French side, Aix-Marseille University (through the Instrumentation Department, the IM2NP UMR 7334, the joint AMU-CNRS-CEA LIMMEX laboratory) and the CEA. This school, which brings together more than 50 participants, is intended for students (second-year masters and doctoral students), post-doctoral fellows and scientists wishing to acquire new skills. At each edition, students in the second year of the Instrumentation, Measurement and Metrology master's degree course, co-accredited with the CEA/INSTN, are selected to participate. At each edition, a theme is treated thanks to conferences, lectures, posters presented by the students, workshops and visits of installations in nuclear centers.

The five previous editions dealt with the applications of nuclear instrumentation and measurement respectively :

  • to research reactors (Rabat 2010),
  • fuel cycle (Marseille 2011),
  • medicine and the environment (Rabat 2014),
  • decommissioning (Marseille 2016),
  • and finally nuclear and radiological safety and security (Rabat 2018)
