An innovative and interdisciplinary flagship project of Aix-Marseille University, the Maison du Théâtre aims to ensure synergy between training and research in the field of theatre in order to make it a sector of excellence of the institution. It is based on the original articulation between research and creation, in collaboration with the territory's artistic partners, and has a major societal impact.
The Maison du Théâtre d'Aix-Marseille Université is unique and unpublished in France. It was made possible thanks to the specific richness of its region (Marseille 2nd city of France in number of theatres and the Bouches-du-Rhône 1st Department outside the Paris region), as well as to the exceptional number of its researchers, teacher-researchers and teachers whose at least one axis of work is related to the theatrical field. It enhances the value of the actions carried out within AMU laboratories and generates new projects. It was validated on July 24, 2017 and the Maison du Théâtre mission charge was presented on October 24, 2017 to the AMU Board of Directors.
The Maison du Théâtre has more than fifty associate members: researchers, teacher-researchers and teachers, spread over 14 laboratories (CIELAM, LESA, LERMA, CAER, UMR IrAsia, EXCHANGES, UMR TDMAM, UMR Centre Camille Jullian, UMR IMAF, LID2MS, UMR GREQAM, UMR PRISM, UMR ISM, ADEF), and 7 components (Faculty of Arts, Letters, Languages and Human Sciences, Mediterranean House of Human Sciences, Faculty of Law and Political Science, Faculty of Economics and Management, Sciences, Faculty of Sports Sciences, Higher School of Teaching and Education) in a strong interdisciplinary perspective: literary, theatre historians, theatre practitioners and aestheticians, translators, archaeologists, didacticians, sound and image specialists on stage, movement specialists on stage, lawyers, economists, etc.
The research activities of the Maison du Théâtre have a broad impact on the general public: the Rencontres de la Maison du Théâtre, the POTEAC Seminar ("Poetics and technique of acting: heritage, innovation, globalization") and the AMU International Theatre Week, an annual recurring event.
