DHSE - Health, Safety and Environment Department

1. Missions

The mission of the Prevention Advisor/Director for Health, Safety and Environment at the University of Aix-Marseille is to advise and assist the President and the governance of the establishment in the implementation of legislation, regulations on health and safety at work, environmental protection and fire safety. It works with the Vice-President in charge of occupational health and safety and in collaboration with the other stakeholders (prevention doctors, occupational health and safety inspectors, consultation bodies) to develop the prevention policy conducted by AMU.
The Directorate coordinates and leads, in conjunction with the prevention advisors of the partner EPSTs, the network of prevention assistants; these local actors play an important role in raising awareness, informing and training staff and students arriving in the research unit. Within the DHSE, campus health and safety engineers are responsible for:

• Prevent hazards that could compromise the health and safety of agents,
• Propose improvements in methods and work environment,
• Advance knowledge of safety issues and techniques to solve them,
• Ensure that health and safety records are properly maintained in all departments,
• Support prevention assistants in their risk assessment process and the drafting of the single document.

Campus DHSE managers assist and advise deans and component directors in the implementation of the occupational risk prevention and environmental protection policy at each university site. They inform, train staff, coordinate the network of prevention assistants in the assessment of occupational risks.
