Silent figures and sounds of the Mediterranean crossing

The Cargo project, led by artists Anne de Giafferri and Christian Delécluse, in partnership with researchers from the Iremam (UMR 7310) and Mesopolhis (UMR 7064) laboratories and students from Aix-Marseille Université, is part of a resolutely interdisciplinary and experimental approach that seeks to show, through the prism of words, narratives and soundscapes, the immigration that is taking place, based on the accounts of the Mediterranean crossing.

To do this, it questions the relationship between artistic and academic approaches based on a cross analysis of the materials collected around the temporalities of the crossing and the creation of a sound work. From this innovative device will emerge a common installation co-constructed, shared, questioned and diffused between artists, academics and citizens. It will take the form of an itinerant maritime container diverted from its logistical function in economic globalisation to be moored in the heart of several large Mediterranean cities and offer a space for the discovery and impregnation of artistic, visual and sound creations.

This project, which approaches the question of mobility, identity and belonging in the Mediterranean from a new angle, takes a sensitive look at the crossing, navigation, migration and, more generally, at the exchanges between the peoples that have nourished Mediterranean civilizations, between past and present.
