CALL FOR CHAIRES D'EXCELLENCE 2020

The A*Midex Foundation is launching its fourth call for the Chaires d'Excellence program. The ambition of Aix-Marseille Université and its partners, through this program, is to attract (and stabilize) on the Aix-Marseille site outstanding teachers, teacher-researchers and researchers of international standing, on structuring projects contributing to the strategy of the Aix-Marseille site. The A*Midex Foundation regularly launches calls for proposals for this programme, for a limited number of labelled projects per year (1 to 3 new projects per year).

The main objectives of this call are to enable the Aix-Marseille site to carry out a strategic recruitment of external scientific / pedagogical profiles capable of carrying out innovative projects (research, pedagogy), to develop new themes, or to reinforce the excellence of the site on a theme; it is a question in particular of recruiting high-level researcher/teacher-researcher profiles on the Aix-Marseille site, with the capacity to obtain an ERC on the Aix-Marseille site within the next 5 years (for research profiles); it is also a question of guaranteeing the return on investment of the programme by encouraging the subsequent stabilisation of these newcomers, after the duration of the Chair.

The Chaires d'Excellence program offers an attractive host environment to teachers, teacher-researchers and researchers in incoming mobility, to carry out a research and/or educational project for a period of 3 years (renewable for 2 years): it may include the salary of the project manager for three years (renewable for two years under certain conditions) on a fixed-term contract with the LRU, and an environmental budget of up to €200,000 per year, for investment costs (excluding infrastructure), operating costs and payroll (post-doctoral student, doctoral student, engineer).

A multi-stage selection process will be organized. The first stage will be the proposal of an Excellence Chair project, by one or more research units/component/schools. An application form must be completed and returned to the A*Midex Foundation and three CVs of potential candidates must be provided, at least as an appendix to the application. The A*Midex Steering Committee will pre-select projects on the basis of the project selection criteria explained in the call documents. In a second stage, international hearings of applicants will be organised to verify the quality of the profiles for these projects and the presence of potential eligible applicants. Finally, a recruitment competition will be opened, and candidates selected at the end of the recruitment process will be invited to develop a full version of their A*Midex Chaires d'Excellence project over three years.

For teacher-researcher and professor profiles, the agreement of the component or home school is key, as well as its commitment to A*Midex and the University to open a position to competition within three years of the Chair, if the project carried out was satisfactory. For researcher profiles, the research unit is encouraged to explain a strategy for stabilization after the term of the Chaires d'Excellence.

The eligibility and selection criteria for projects and applicants, as well as the operation of the call, are described in the framework text of the call for proposals.

The file for step 1 is to be sent by email to amidex-direction@univ-amu.fr before June 11, 2020 at noon (Paris time).
