AMU doctoral contract

The doctoral contract is a 3-year fixed-term employment contract (CDD) that allows a public institution to recruit a doctoral researcher. Every year, Aix-Marseille University launches its recruitment campaign via the institution's doctoral schools.

The 2019-2022 campaign is underway.

In order to strengthen the professional character of the doctorate, institutions have the possibility to recruit doctoral researchers by awarding them a doctoral contract. Doctoral students are thus integrated into the staff of the institution for 3 years and will be paid for their research.

Eligibility criteria

Candidates for recruitment as contractual doctoral candidates must meet the general conditions for doctoral enrolment defined by the decree of 7 August 2006 on doctoral training:

"Art. 14: Doctoral enrolment is pronounced by the head of the school on the proposal of the director of the doctoral school after consulting the thesis director and the director of the research unit (...). To be registered for a doctorate, the candidate must hold a national master's degree or another diploma conferring the master's degree, following a training course establishing his or her research aptitude.

If this diploma requirement is not met, the headteacher may, by way of derogation and on a proposal from the doctoral school council, enrol students who have completed studies abroad at an equivalent level or who benefit from the validation of prior learning provided for in Article L. 613-5 of the Education Code. (…) ».

In accordance with the decree of 23 April 2009 on contractual doctoral candidates from public higher education or research institutions, students are entitled to obtain a doctoral contract by submitting proof of enrolment for the preparation of a doctorate. This registration must be effective on the effective date of the contract and not at the time of application, which can take place very early on.

Each doctoral school has its own application documents. We invite you to contact the doctoral school of your choice to find out more about their eligibility criteria. The doctoral contract, created in 2009, is a real 3-year fixed-term employment contract that allows research units to recruit a doctoral researcher. The offers are published on the doctoral school websites during recruitment campaigns.
