For two days, nearly 100 representatives of international universities will gather in the United Kingdom to think about the global educational strategies of tomorrow.

The annual meeting of the Presidents of the U7+ Alliance member universities

For the past two years, members of the Alliance have met annually at the U7+ Summit to establish an agenda of joint actions that will contribute positively to the issues on the G7 agenda. Together, U7+ university presidents take stock of civic and social responsibilities and engage in working groups to take action on behalf of their institutions to address the world's most pressing local, regional and global challenges.

The U7+ 2021 Presidential Summit

The year 2021 is a pivotal year for building a greener, more sustainable future. The climate emergency was at the heart of the G7 summit and will be at the heart of the 26th United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (COP26) which will take place from 1 to 12 November 2021 in Glasgow.

The time has come for universities to contribute to the public debate and to respond to the environmental challenges of our century through research, education and international collaboration.

By training the future leaders of tomorrow, by making more accessible all the research conducted on environmental issues and by promoting links between policy makers and private companies, universities can play a decisive role in building a sustainable future for all.

These are the issues that will occupy this year's U7+ Presidential Summit hosted by:

During the summit, U7+ member universities will be asked to define the Alliance's climate commitments and review the University of Edinburgh and University of Toronto's shared action proposal for greenhouse gas reduction and energy efficiency and the outcomes of the U7+ Global Student Forum, jointly hosted by UCL, Northwestern University and the U7+ Student Leaders Board. This year, the students focused on the roles and responsibilities of universities in relation to the intergenerational issues of climate change.
