Support to Lebanese universities after the Beirut explosions

Empotage conteneurs pour le liban

Aix-Marseille University is supporting Lebanese partner universities following the deadly explosion in the port of Beirut on August the 4th that left Lebanese families in distress.

Lebanese students have been exceptionally exempted from registration fees for the academic year 2020/2021 at Aix-Marseille University. This measure was taken after the deadly explosion on 4 August in the port of Beirut that left the city terribly damaged and Lebanese families in distress.

In addition to this measure, AMU offered the Lebanese academic community support mechanisms and the delivery of materials for the continuation of their academic activities. This service is organized in a coordinated effort between AMU and the CMA CGM Foundation, which has made available one of their boats to Beirut.

AMU will send the material to 3 Lebanese universities that are members of the Téthys consortium: the Lebanese University, St Joseph University and Antonine University. The International Relations Office coordinated the stuffing of the 3 containers (an operation that took place on the Luminy campus) which will be delivered with computers and kitchen equipment: 150 refurbished computers, and various equipment (tables, worktops, household appliances, etc.).

Loading of the equipment on the Luminy Campus took place on 12 February, with the boat scheduled to leave on 25 February.
