In the aisles of the Avant Cap shopping center, a special market awaits passers-by: the Souk des sciences. On this ephemeral scientific market, it is not fruits or vegetables that are exchanged, but knowledge, ideas and experiments.

The Souk des sciences, a place to exchange grey matter
Conceived by Aix-Marseille Université's scientific culture unit (Research and Development Department) based on an original idea by Hassane Bitar, a chemist and creator of the event, the Souk des sciences is setting up its stalls this year in the aisles of the Avant Cap shopping center in Plan de Campagne.
Logic games, color chemistry, a dive into the meanders of the brain, an experiment in the heart of the anthill... The stalls of the Souk des sciences will awake the scientific curiosity of everyone, young and old, and invite you to take part in amazing scientific experiments.
Many laboratories and associations of scientific culture will bring this scientific market to life: CEA, E4, FSCM, ICR, IM2NP, IMBE, IREMAM, IRPHE, ISM2, LAI, M2P2, Maths pour tous and the Neuronautes.
An event organized by Aix-Marseille Université in partnership with Avant Cap, CNRS, CEA, ECM, Inserm, IRD and with the support of the Bouches-du-Rhône department and the South Region.

Created in 1990 in Plan de Campagne, the AVANT CAP shopping centre underwent its first renovation in 2013, which was also marked by its extension. With its 110 stores and restaurants spread over 19,000 square meters, a free car park with 1,600 spaces and a 7-day-a-week opening, AVANT CAP has welcomed, in 2021, nearly 4 million visitors, often coming with their families.
