National recovery plan: AMU allocated €61.1 million for its building energy renovation projects

Within the framework of the call for projects of the recovery plan dedicated to the energy renovation of the ESR's public buildings and student life (total amount of €1.316 billion), €700 million has been allocated to universities.

The results unveiled yesterday by the Government were good news for Aix-Marseille University, which has been awarded €61.2 million to finance 10 of the projects it had submitted. This is the largest financial envelope allocated to a university member of the Udice association (which brings together the 10 big Idex-labelled universities). Among the projects financed, the energy rehabilitation of the Faculty of Pharmacy building on the Timone campus is the largest renovation project financed (€27.7 million).

The 9 other projects funded :

  • Health Campus North: Restructuring Studies
  • Saint-Jérôme Campus: energy rehabilitation studies for 9 buildings and energy self-generation
  • Saint-Charles Campus: energy rehabilitation of building 5
  • Creation of the Marseille Simulation Centre (SIMMAR) on the Faculty of Medical and Paramedical Sciences
  • Pierre Puget site, Faculty of Economics and Management: modernization of hygienic air ventilation with improved energy performance and user comfort.
  • Saint Charles Campus: modernization of hygienic air ventilation with improved energy performance and user comfort
  • Jules Issac site (INSPE): rationalisation and pooling of heating production using high-performance gas boilers.
  • Susini site in Marseille Nord IUT of St Jérôme: reinforcement of the thermal insulation of external aluminium joinery.
  • Mediterranean House of Human Sciences (MMSH): modernization of hygienic air ventilation with improved energy performance and user comfort

In addition, AMU won €2.8 million in another interministerial call for projects "Rapid energy gains".

It is important to remember that Aix-Marseille University is in a strong move towards energy transition. The "Sustainable Development" Vice-Presidency and the Sustainable Development Department is in charge of developing, leading and evaluating the strategy in this area by involving all the stakeholders. AMU has set itself the goal of reducing its energy consumption by 60% by 2050. To achieve this, 3 energy transition levers are being activated: reducing energy consumption through sobriety, improving energy efficiency and producing renewable energy. Our real estate actions will all aim to play on at least one of these levers of action. This strategy in favour of sustainable development has positioned AMU, in 2020, in 20th place worldwide in the Times Higher Education "University Impact Ranking". AMU is notably the 12th world university on SDO n°7 entitled "clean and affordable energy".

At a press conference, Eric Berton, President of AMU, Damien Verhaeghe, Director of the Office of the President and Vice-President Human Wealth and Heritage of AMU, Françoise Dignat George, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and AMU Vice-President Delegate for Innovation and Philippe Dulbecco, Rector Delegate for Higher Education, Research and Innovation of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur academic region presented the various projects underway and the objectives of the recovery plan.
