En 2021 la Nuit Européenne des Chercheur.e.s invite aux voyages !

On September 24th, the 6th edition of the European Researchers' Night in Aix-Marseille will take the form of an invitation to travel. A journey through time, a journey through the senses, an imaginary journey... Passers-by in Aix-en-Provence are invited to meet, discuss, share questions and anecdotes with a hundred or so researchers from Aix-Marseille Université. The aim is to immerse them in the heart of research through stories, objects, films and travel memories.

Friday 24 September 2021 from 6pm to midnight
Free - open to all
Musée des Tapisseries - Institute of Public Management and Territorial Governance and Place des Martyrs de la Résistance, 13100 Aix-en-Provence

To better understand and apprehend science, whatever your age, the European Researchers' Night is focusing this year on the theme of travel. Several forms of encounters are open to the public: researchers' suitcases, scientific stopovers, a cinema station, a museum expedition...

During this cultural and scientific journey, visitors will be able to explore numerous subjects in the human and social sciences as well as in the experimental sciences: deep-sea diving, immersion in the forest, the journey of a Hollywood hero...

At the heart of this journey, the bivouac will mix arts and sciences. On the menu: dance performances, radio, Youtube live and DJ sets.
Food and beverage outlets will be available to complete the journey, open to all, whilst discovering research in progress.

Focus on...

The scientific stopovers
8 minutes: this is the time a passenger and a scientist have to discuss a research topic, as they would over a coffee (in the bar car). At the sound of the gong, another stopover with another researcher.

The museum expedition
A dialogue between researchers and works presented in two exhibitions at the Musée des tapisseries: Trouble fête, collections curieuses et choses inquiètes by Macha Makeïeff and Microscopiques reliques by Isabelle RocheMars.

The cinema station
Through 5 cycles of short films followed by encounters, the films open the door to the imagination, to travel and to research.

Associated events
A programme of encounters with researchers in schools will take place on September 30th. Two pre-events of the European Researchers' Night will take place in Marseille during the World Conservation Congress and in La Ciotat, during the Lumexplore Festival.

Compulsory health pass and respect for safety measures

This event is organised by Aix-Marseille Université, in partnership with research organisations (CNRS, CEA, INSERM, IRD, INRAE, École centrale Marseille, Science Po) with the support of the European Commission, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the South Region, the Bouches-du-Rhône Department, the Aix-Marseille Provence Metropolitan Area, the CNRS, Inserm, IRD and the City of Aix-en-Provence
