COVID19 - Decisions and new instructions following national measures

Following the announcements made by the Minister of Health concerning the Aix-Marseille metropolis, and following the opinion of the Rector of the Academy: "Dear President, I confirm to you that the new measures announced this evening by the Minister of Health do not modify the protocols and rules that govern our universities, including in Marseille. The measures taken by AMU remain appropriate and relevant", I inform you of the decisions I took this morning with the extended governance team:

THURSDAY, September 24, 2020

Dear all,

The university remains open but we think it is more reasonable to limit the access of students to the university in order to reduce the flow.
We note indeed that if the sanitary measures are respected inside our buildings, they are not sufficiently respected outside.
We therefore strongly suggest to the component management to reduce access to the classroom only in the following cases

  • For the practical work activities.
  • For students in the digital divide who cannot follow distance learning (possible hybridization of teaching).
  • For evaluations and exams.

The heads of the faculties and schools of our university are best able to evaluate the real situation within their sites, according to their specificities. Therefore, these measures can be adapted to each particular context.
The hybridization of teaching (half-distantial, half-presential) remains a solution depending on the situation.

In addition, all sports activities that involve a high risk of transmission of the virus due to the difficulty of applying the barrier measures are cancelled.
Gymnasiums and gyms are also closed during the 15 days of strict application of the government measures.

All of these decisions apply from Monday 28 September to Monday 12 October. At the end of these two weeks of application of the strict governmental instructions, a health assessment will allow us to make them evolve.
Of course, during this period of time, these rules are bound to evolve according to the sanitary reality and national measures.

Dear colleagues, dear students, be assured of my total determination to preserve our community and the meaning of our action.

Sincerely yours,

Eric Berton
