The institute of Mediterranean Societies in Transition, in collaboration with the MUCEM, has launched a call for applications on the theme “Live in times of crisis. An anthropological approach through objects” – Application deadline : 15 July 2020.

Call for applications on the theme
"Living in times of crisis. An anthropological approach through objects"

- Deadline for response: 15 July 2020 (17h) -

Within the framework of a partnership between the Museum of Civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean in Marseilles (Mucem) and the Institute of Mediterranean Societies in Transition in Aix-en-Provence (SoMuM), it is proposed to recruit a post-doctoral researcher as of October 1, 2020, for a 12-month contract (renewable once).

The post-doctoral researcher will conduct a research project on the theme "Living in Times of Crisis. An anthropological approach through objects".

These avenues of reflection are part of one of the SoMuM Institute's research fields, entitled "Transitions, long-term destabilisations and crises", which pays particular attention to understanding the transitions of yesterday's, today's and tomorrow's societies. The research project may shed light on some of these questions: what is the contribution of a study in the human and social sciences to the understanding of a crisis situation? How to investigate the crisis and/or the exit from the crisis? What is the researcher's share of responsibility in producing new representations of the world?

About the institute of Mediterranean Societies in Transition(SoMuM):

The strength of the institute is to cover a large disciplinary field in the social sciences and humanities at the Aix-Marseille University site counting on an international network of scientists and socio-economic and cultural stakeholders, all specialists in the Mediterranean as an observatory of the major global challenges to be met.

The contribution of knowledge in the Social sciences and humanities is more necessary than ever in the face of the doxa and stereotypes that impact political and socio-economic discourse. Supported by the Mediterranean social science centre (MMSH), the Institute of Mediterranean Societies in Transition aims to describe, analyse and anticipate profound and sustainable transformations in the Mediterranean rim at the interface of Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The production and processing of survey data and the collection of Big data, as well as their archiving and dissemination, are at the heart of the scientific and educational approach. In an interdisciplinary framework, they allow the creation of digital platforms and tools for new conceptualisations.
