As part of the international day against homophobia and transphobia, celebrated on May 17, Aix-Marseille Université reaffirms its commitment to the fight against discrimination through the organization of a round table.

Monday 17 May 2021 - 4.30-6pm

As a socially committed university, Aix-Marseille Université aims to be inclusive for all, particularly for people with disabilities, but also in favour of gender equality and the fight against all forms of discrimination. As early as 2016, a mechanism to fight sexual harassment was put in place, then extended in 2019 to sexist, sexual and LGBTIphobic violence.

Since 2018, and the adoption by the Board of Directors of its LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) Charter of Commitment appended to its Internal Regulations, Aix-Marseille Université has been implementing strong measures to facilitate daily life such as the possibility of authorising the use of a first name and customary title within the University, open to transgender and intersex students. A listening and support system, as well as numerous awareness-raising and information activities are also offered to students.

In this context, the Vice Presidency of Equality between Women and Men and the Fight against Discrimination is organising a round table entitled "LGBTIphobia, what are we talking about? Definitions, tools and means of action". It will take place online and is open to all staff and students. Flora Bolter, co-director of the LGBT+ Observatory of the Jean Jaurès Foundation will present the state of research and knowledge on LGBTIphobia in France. Several LGBTI+ associations, with which Aix-Marseille Université has strong partnerships, will also be present and will interact with the participants.

The expert speakers for this round table are

  • Flora BOLTER, Co-Director of the LGBT+ Observatory of the Jean Jaurès Foundation;
  • Thierry LAMOUR, trainer and representative of the association Autre Cercle;
  • Véronique GODET, administrator of the association SOS Homophobie;
  • Annabel MAESTRE, President of the association CONTACT 13.

They will be joined by Cécile Langonnet from the Inter-University Service for Preventive Medicine and Health Promotion, who will present the University's commitments and means of action, and Sophie Sereno, lecturer at the Faculty of Law and Political Science, who will discuss the legal context.
