The 2021 school year: ways of resuming lessons

DIRCOM-RENTREE2021-FR-Carrousel

As announced at the beginning of the month, the resumption of face-to-face classes will take place on January 25th, under conditions, for first year undergraduate students and for those with a digital divide. For all other classes, the resumption of face-to-face classes is scheduled for February 8, subject to a favourable health situation.

Subject to the evolution of health conditions, as well as the transmission of additional instructions, I remind you of the conditions and modalities of student resumption on the campuses in the coming days:

  • Until 25/01 for students in the first year of a bachelor's degree, DUT, PEIP1 and first year of engineering school - and until 8/02 for other diplomas - the current system remains in force: courses in lecture theatres and distance learning, practical work possible in the classroom subject to authorisation, assessments possible in the classroom).
  • Between 25/01 and 8/02, for the L1/DUT1/PEIP1/first year of engineering school, all lectures exceeding the size of the TD group (40 students) remain at a distance (except digital divide). The other courses and pedagogical activities (CM with less than 40 students, TD, TP) can take place face-to-face provided that the rules of distance learning are respected and that student flows are reduced to half gauge (Half gauge means: half of the room capacity).
  • From 8/02, for all diplomas, all lectures exceeding the size of the TD group (40 students) remain at a distance (except digital divide). The other courses and pedagogical activities (CM with less than 40 students, TD, TP) can take place in a classical face-to-face way provided that the rules of distance learning are respected and that the student flow is reduced to half gauge.

Moreover, at each site, it is advisable to limit the mixing of students and to never exceed at most half of the classes usually received. For example, if the site usually hosts 200 students, the maximum number of students present on the site at any one time is 100. Each Component Director may choose to lower this threshold depending on the specifics of the site concerned.

In view of the very worrying psychological state of the students and the urgent need to help them in many other ways, Prime Minister Jean Castex recently announced a series of measures:

  • The recruitment of 20,000 student tutors by universities;
  • The recruitment of 1600 student referees in the CROUS residences;
  • The doubling of the number of psychologists in the Universities;
  • The recruitment of 60 social workers in the Crous;
