Travelling through time

Colloque international organisé à Aix-en-Provence du 6 au 9 septembre 2022. Les propositions de communication sont attendues jusqu'au 30 avril 2022.

Whether it is a question of mass migrations, seasonal movements of livestock between complementary pastures, or commercial exchanges, the mobility of animals is a crucial element in understanding the organization of past societies, changes in landscapes, and the history of lands and territories. If the question of livestock mobility has been widely explored in archaeology, the development of bioarchaeological methods in recent years (genomic studies, isotope analyses...) tends to revise our knowledge and to re-examine the scenarios and models of mobility considered until now. In the era of globalization, this session aims to highlight past mobility in all its forms. We will prioritize papers that focus on direct evidence to inform the debate on livestock movements in different regions of the world, but also papers that highlight the limitations or challenges that still exist in terms of methodology. In particular, we will welcome highly interdisciplinary approaches and long-term investigations.
